I think the most important things Try to keep the sun behind your subject (even when it seems directly overhead).

Avoid open shade as it gives little dimension and looks rather flat, and look for light patches to place your subject in.

On overcast days, have your subjects tilt their heads skyward or use something that reflects light back to their faces.

If you love that golden glow in photos, shoot during golden hour, close to sunrise and sunset, as the sun is low in the sky and creates long shadows.

To make perfect food shots, you’ll need three things: great food styling, natural light, and one or two Styrofoam boards for shadows.

It was shot in our studio’s makeup room, using a large window, a skylight rapid frame, a piece of foam board, and a white paper backdrop.

The best time to shoot outdoor portraits is when the sun’s not shining from above but from the side—either morning or evening.

Take a moment to review the image through the viewfinder before shooting. I’m not keen on shooting on overcast days because everything looks dull, even after color-correcting the images. It’s a lot more challenging to shoot in sunlight, but the results are totally worth it.

White Balance is an aspect of photography that many digital camera owners don’t understand or use. But it’s something well worth learning about as it can have a real impact upon the shots you take. The range in different temperatures ranges from the very cool light of blue sky through to the very warm light of a candle. The way this is used varies a little between models but in essence what you do is to tell your camera what white looks like in a shot so that it has something as a reference point. After taking this picture I then held up a piece of white paper to my camera to tell it what color white is. Then I took a second shot with this setting and got the following result  which you’ll see is a much truer color cast than the first imaged. This manual adjustment is not difficult to do once you find where to do it in the menu on your camera and it’s well worth learning how to do it. The first shot is one of some books on my wife’s bookshelf taken in Auto White Balance mode.

File formats

So the different formats are jpeg, Tiff, Raw, DNG, PNG, GIF, BMP, PSD. So first off JPEG files from , jpeg are compressed in the camera and thus result in a loss of detail and quality. next TIFF is simply a big file that will take up a lot of space. Raw is a setting that can allow u high quality files from your camera. DNG is The DNG is offered as a main RAW file format, or as an alternative to the manufacturer’s native RAW format. PNGs are compressed in a lossless format, and therefore retain all detail. But unlike other file formats, PNG quality doesn’t mean big file sizes – and this is useful on the internet, because you need pages to load quickly. Gif is shortly can hold up to 256 colors. the BMP was invented by Microsoft, initially for use on the Windows platform. However, BMPs are now recognized by programs on Macs, as well. This makes PSDs absolutely essential for any sort of extensive manipulation of the original photograph, such as retouching.
